Real places, raised off the wall

Terra Forma Maps is me, one person in a small studio in Salt Lake City, making three dimensional maps of the places people love.

It started because I wanted to capture how magnificent the Earth’s terrain really is. I have always loved terrain maps and the outdoors, and I wanted a piece on my own wall that did the land justice. So I made one for myself. Once it was hanging, I realized I wanted other people to have that too: their own favorite places, raised off the wall in their homes.

Every map starts with the official elevation survey of the real land, the same data geologists and land managers work from. I turn that survey into a model, print it myself, check it by hand and pack it myself. Nothing is drop shipped, nothing comes out of a factory, and none of it is an artist’s impression. Every ridge, canyon and river bend sits exactly where it does in real life, so if you know a place well, you will find your spots on it.

I started with Utah because it is home, and because it has some of the most dramatic land anywhere, beginning with Zion and Kings Peak. More are added regularly, and every map in the shop is built to the same square format with the same marble finish plaque, so pieces bought years apart still hang together like a set. The plaque sits in whichever corner suits the land best, tucked onto the quietest ground so it never covers the parts that matter.

If the place that matters to you is not in the shop, I can make it. Tell me where, I send you a preview before anything prints, and you get a map of somewhere nobody else has on their wall. On a custom map you can even choose what the plaque says and which corner it goes in.

The material is a stone filled filament with real ground mineral in it, so every piece prints with its own natural shading, the way no two pieces of marble match. I think that is the best part. Yours will be one of one.

Questions about anything, message me. It is always me on the other end, and I check messages every day.
